Arizona State University held its groundbreaking for the brand new building that will house the Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law in downtown Phoenix, according to The Arizona Republic.
Former U.S. Supreme Court justice Sandra Day O’Connor was in attendance for the groundbreaking. She even got to turn a shovelful of dirt on Thursday at the event.

Construction began back in July at the new location, which is at Second and Taylor Streets in the city. The building will cost $129 million and will be six stories tall. It will be called the Arizona Center for Law and Society.
The construction should be finished by August of 2016 so classes that fall can begin in the new building.
For the time being, the law school is located on the Tempe campus of the school as employees are housed in multiple buildings.
Leo and Annette Beus donated $10 million to aid in the construction of the new law school building. It is the largest donation to the law school. So far, some $34 million has been raised for construction.
The majority of the $129 million project is being funded by ASU using construction bonds. The remaining money will come from private donations and the city of Phoenix. The city is offering land and $12 million for the project.

The law school is going to occupy about two-thirds of the building. The Lincoln Center for Applied Ethics and the McCain Institute for International Leadership will be located in the building. They are two think tanks.
