A handful of MacBook owners have taken their issues to court after purchasing laptops with defects back in 2011, according to The Huffington Post.
A lawsuit was filed against Apple in a federal court in California yesterday by three MacBook owners. They claim that the 2011 MacBook Pros have defective graphics cards. They also claim that Apple has not compensated them for the defects or fixed them.

The three plaintiffs named in the lawsuit are looking for class-action status, which would mean they will fight for anyone who dealt with such problems.
Apple has not responded to the lawsuit.
The problem with the MacBook stems from how the graphics card is attached to the motherboard of the computer, according to the court filing. The lead-free soldering material cracks over time due to heat emitted by the computer, “turning their computers into ‘$3000 paperweights.’ ”
“What’s unique about this case is that this problem was there from the onset,” said Gary Mason, a founding partner at Whitfield Bryson & Mason LLP, which filed the suit. “Apple knew it,” he said.
When the MacBook launched, they ranged in price from $1,119 to $2,499.
According to multiple reports and user threads online, the graphics cards would fail, causing system crashes and on-screen glitches. The glitches included red strips being seen on the screen or showing fuzzy images.

Whitfield Bryson & Mason LLP said that Apple would replace the motherboards, but would charge as much as $600 for customers who were out of their warranty.
