Jeffrey McFadden, Chair of Securities Litigation at Steptoe & Johnson, Joins Stradley Ronon

Summary: Stradley Ronon announced on Tuesday that Jeffrey E. McFadden, most recently the chair of the securities litigation and enforcement practice group at Steptoe & Johnson, has joined the firm as a partner in its Washington DC office.

McFadden has nearly 25 years of experience litigating cases in state and federal courts and administrative forums across the country. He brings to Stradley Ronon significant white-collar criminal defense and corporate internal investigations experience, including service to the Special Investigative Committee of the Board of Directors of Enron Corp.

Before entering private practice, he served as a lecturer in English at the U.S. Naval Academy at Annapolis, MD; as a Special Assistant and Speechwriter for the Secretary of the Navy; as a systems engineer at General Electric Co.; and as a nuclear engineer in the US Navy.

“Jeff’s hiring, along with the recent expansion of our New York office, is part of the firm’s strategic initiative to give our clients on-the-ground access – from D.C. to New York – to a broader range of legal services that directly meet their specific needs,” said Stradley Ronon Chairman William R. Sasso.

McFadden represents corporations and individuals in high-stakes civil and criminal litigation, administrative enforcement matters and arbitrations. He has extensive experience in private securities litigation in areas such as securities fraud class actions, shareholder derivative suits and transaction injunction suits. In addition, McFadden has significant experience defending clients in federal False Claims Act cases, particularly in cases alleging health care fraud and mortgage fraud.

McFadden has been awarded a Burton Award for Legal Writing and the Officer Cross pro Merito Militensi, awarded by the Sovereign Military Order of Malta. He is a strong supporter of pro bono work and serves as chairman of the board of the Francis D. Murnaghan, Jr. Appellate Advocacy Fellowship in Baltimore, Maryland.

He received his J.D., magna cum laude, from Georgetown University Law Center and his B.S. from the U.S. Naval Academy.
