Paul Fransway Joins Dickinson Wright as Co-Lead of Franchise & Distribution Group

Summary: Franchise attorney Paul R. Fransway joins Dickinson Wright at Anne Arbor as co-lead of the office’s Franchise & Distribution Practice Group. The other co-lead of the group is Ned Levitt who works at the firm’s Toronto office.

Paul R. Fransway is recognized as a leading franchise attorney by Best Lawyers in America, Dbusiness, and Who’s Who of Franchise Lawyers. He concentrates his practice in franchise, trademark and unfair competition law. He joins the Anne Arbor office of Dickinson Wright as co-lead of the Franchise & Distribution Group of the law firm.

He serves as primary franchise counsel for a number of national franchisors, and he helps them comply with disclosure and registration requirements under the Federal Trade Commission and various state laws. He is also an expert in all aspects of franchise contract enforcement, including covenants not to compete, trademark infringement, and post-termination remedies, both in court and in arbitration.

Fransway’s experience in the areas of business and intellectual property law includes drafting and negotiation of services, nondisclosure, trademark licensing; mergers and acquisitions; information technology and intellectual property management and compliance policies; and the prosecution of trademark registration applications and management of trademark portfolios. He is also an expert in defense and prosecution of opposition and cancellation proceedings before the United States Trademark Trial and Appeal Board.

Fransway is a member of the American Bar Association’s Forum on Franchising and the National Association of College and University Attorneys. He also acts as special counsel and as a director or trustee for a number of community organizations including various primary schools, post-secondary educational institutions and national nonprofit educational organizations.

Fransway received his B.S. from Michigan State University, his J.D. and his LL.M. in Taxation from the University of Houston Law Center.
