Amazing Pictures of Underground House

Summary: Amazing pictures of a Swiss underground house.

If you have a flair for Tolkien’s The Hobbit, or find the idea of living in a bunker romantic and adventurous, or, on the other hand, if you simply want a house unlike any in your neighborhood, you might consider contacting the architects who made this underground house in the Swiss village of Vals. SeARCH and Christian Muller Architects designed this house embedded in the scenic mountains.

With a wide oval portal for a face, including some traditional stone stairs to approach it, the house is otherwise entirely embedded in the landscape. With walls of earth to hug it, the building needs little heating or cooling in the winter and summer months.

The inside is filled with all you would expect from an upscale house: kitchen, dining area, guest room, and entertainment area – but it also includes some underground pathways that give the residence its difference and its sense of adventure.

Imagine were an entire neighborhood created in such a way: it would change the landscape, and also how we view the relationship between man and his environment. Certainly it counts as a fascinating experiment and a door to future opportunities.
