Quinnipiac University School of Law Hoping New Building Draws Students

Summary: The brand new building at the Quinnipiac University School of Law has opened and officials hope it will increase the enrollment numbers at the school.

A new, $50 million building that houses the Quinnipiac University School of Law opened recently in North Haven, Connecticut, according to The American Lawyer.

According to the release on the school’s website, the building is one of three connected on the graduate school campus that is “expansive and architecturally distinctive, with an array of shared amenities, a beautiful full-service dining commons, bookstore, ample parking, and convenient highway access.”

The fall of 2014 saw 92 students enroll for the first-year class. According to data from the ABA, just 34 percent of graduates from the class of 2013 found full-time, long-term employment requiring a law degree.

A degree costs $47,000 today from the school, which is an increase from just over $30,000 in 2006.

These employment numbers are not new for the school, as 41 percent of graduates from the class of 2012 found full-time, long-term employment requiring a law degree. In 2011, the employment rate was at 35 percent.

Despite the rough employment numbers of the school’s graduates, University president John Lahey said, “There’s a decline in the demand for lawyers. Even with the decline, we’re the only school in the country to spend $50 million for a new law school.”

Tuition at the law school did not increase for the 2014-2015 school year. Despite this, 86 percent of the class of 2013 graduates have law school debt average $102,000.
