Richard “Rick” Hosley, Former Department of Justice Attorney, Joins Hogan Lovells

Summary: Hogan Lovells has hired Richard “Rick” Hosley in its litigation practice in its Denver office. Hosley will join the firm as a partner.

Hogan Lovells is pleased to announce that Richard “Rick” Hosley has joined the litigation practice as a partner in the Denver office. Hosley joins from the United States Department of Justice, where he served as an Assistant United States Attorney and Chief of the Major Crimes Section for the United States Attorney’s Office for the District of Colorado.

In his capacity as Chief of Major Crimes, Hosley served as a supervisory federal prosecutor responsible for prosecuting and litigating federal crimes in the state of Colorado, including immigration, violent crimes, firearms, export and counter proliferation national security cases, and drug trafficking offenses.

Hosley spent eight years with the Department of Justice, and tried over 50 cases in federal, state and military courts. Over 20 of those trials were felonies, which included complex, multi-defendant murder and conspiracy trials. He led hundreds of federal investigations and counseled supervisors and agents from federal law enforcement agencies, including the U.S. Secret Service, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and Homeland Security. As a United States Marine Corps officer, Hosley served as a legal advisor to a Commanding Officer of over 1000 troops in Iraq. He also served as Chief Trial Counsel at a Marine Corps Air Station in Japan.

Cole Finegan, regional managing partner of the Americas and managing partner of the firm’s Denver office, warmly welcomed Hosley on board: “As exports of defense, aviation, aerospace and other high-tech products have increased, government agencies have made export and counter proliferation investigations a top priority. Colorado, home to a number of defense contractors, is a hub for such exports, and Rick’s experience uniquely qualifies him to advise clients engaging in cross-border business.”

Hosley was also optimistic about the next step in his career. “I am eager to begin the next chapter of my legal career with the high caliber Hogan Lovells team. I very much look forward to offering my trial experience and knowledge of the federal courts, Department of Justice, and law enforcement agencies to help firm clients deal with complex investigations,” he said.

Hosley earned his B.A. from Drake University and his J.D. from the University of Colorado School of Law. He was also awarded the 2013 Department of Justice Director’s Award for excellence in litigation.
