Venable Announces It Will Move DC Headquarters to Massachusetts Avenue

Summary: The law firm of Venable LLP has announced that it is moving its headquarters in Washington, D.C. four blocks north to Massachusetts Avenue.

The national law firm Venable has announced that it will move its headquarters in Washington four blocks down the road to Massachusetts Avenue, according to a report from The Washington Post.

The law firm will become the anchor tenant in the brand new Gould Property office tower, which is close to Mount Vernon Square. The firm will take up space on five floors in their new location. The move will occur in the first quarter of 2017.

“We are very excited about this move,” said Brian Schwalb, the firm’s vice chairman. “This new location will keep us right in the heart of D.C.’s most vibrant area, easily accessible to our clients and professionals. In moving to a new building just a couple blocks from our current home, we are committed to contributing to the continued success of this business district.”

A groundbreaking on the new building was held in July after a row of historic brick houses were relocated. Completion on the project is scheduled for the summer of 2016.

The Gould family has been working with core principal I. Guy Martin on the design of the building for more than 30 years.

“We envisioned this building as a glass crystal embedded in a brick block, mediating between high-rise Massachusetts Avenue and historic Eye Street,” Martin said in a release. “I drew the first design sketches of this project for Kingdon Gould in 1981, so it’s immensely gratifying to see the final project break ground.”

Venable is not the first law firm to relocate to the Eastern section of downtown. Arnold & Porter is move into a new tower across the street from the Gould building on Massachusetts Avenue and Covington & Burling took office space at the CityCenter DC building.
