Pics: Ghetto Fixes

Summary: some pictures of slipshod repairs.

The television persona MacGyver was famous for using oddball objects such as a spoon and a rubber band to escape dire consequences. He was the poster child for ghetto fixes. Ghetto repairing is using whatever is lying around to make a slipshod repair that probably won’t last that long. Nevertheless, ghetto repairing is an art that can expose our wit and ingenuity. Consider some of these fixes.

Trying to eat soup but only have a fork? Use a Styrofoam cup for an instant spoon.

This seatbelt fix probably won’t be much use in case of a car accident: a cosmetic fix.

Bought a new television but have no extra money for a new stand? Doctor up the old one.

How frustrating not to have a bottle opener. You might consider smashing the top off, but glass breaks so unpredictably. Perhaps a nut and bolt could help?

Want a brighter room but loathe to put in extra lighting fixtures? Maximize the use of the one you have.

Who needs an electrician when you have a pair of scissors?

Don’t let that stolen car stereo ruin your fun. Keep up on the jams with a boom box and a little tape: the ghetto repairman’s best friend.

How appropriate to a fix a broken book shelf with more books!

Who needs a gps when you have a Smartphone? A little bit of duct tape and you are good to go.

Why spring for an ice chest when you’ve got so many things around the house that could be used as an ice chest?

Stupid sun makes reading the ATM impossible. But man is master of the elements, and can outsmart whatever weather is put before him.

An import car can be converted to fit your country. Just a little bit of hardware and you’ll be all set. This might not be safe.

If the rain takes out your satellite, ask yourself, what would I want if I were in the rain?

A hotplate can be fashioned from something lying in the closet.

This one takes the cake for ghetto repair: a wiper blade motor that’s broken replaced by two ropes. Certainly driving while wiping the windows using ropes can’t be safe.

This must surely be a temporary fix, considering how quickly fruit softens.

This one almost looks like his tires were jacked. As to what he was up to, that cannot readily be discerned.

Props for fixing this desk, but a bookshelf would be much more practical.

This one is my favorite, as it took some ingenuity, and offers a unique look for this car.

A truly ghetto fix of a dragging tailpipe.

Perhaps every lazy father has devised a way to prop the baby’s bottle.

I do this one myself: a great way to keep those cords available, rather than tangled behind the computer.

There’s no way this skateboard ramp is going to work!
