It’s Not About the Nail

Summary: A video shorter than two minutes speaks volumes about communication problems between couples.

Jason Headley has created a video to which all men can relate—how their wives or girlfriends just need them to “listen.” In the video, it seems very clear to the gentleman why his significant other is suffering from headaches and lack of sleep. However, rather than having the obvious stated, his lady friend would rather him simply listen and be sympathetic to her woes, instead of trying to jump in and fix the problem.

With over 400 comments and over 8,000 likes, the video clearly spoke to thousands of viewers on the Internet. A user with the handle “Nearly Genius” nails the point of the video with his comment: “The point is to men: Listen even if you think you know the answer to their problem, they likely know it too; they just want to be heard. But as much as we need to understand that, women could try to understand us and not get so mad, because: Men generally feel the answer is as obvious as in the video–and it’s so hard for us not to help when we are so sure that we can take away the pain–we are trying to help, and even if we intellectually know that you just need to be heard, it’s hard to resist trying to ease your pain–it’s our nature. So remind us, get mad if you must, but please don’t judge us so harshly. We just love you. It’s in the tag line. We need to listen; they know what to do – it’s not about the solution.”

So what exactly is the problem this couple just can’t see eye to eye on? Watch the video to find out.
