On Wednesday, Porzio, Bromberg & Newman P.C. announced their launch of a new Washington D.C. office led by Kevin Bell, Scott Chambers and Richard Oparil – leading intellectual property lawyers who are joining the firm from Squire Patton Boggs.
Both Bell and Oparil are veterans of complex patent litigation. Richard Oparil has more than 25 years of experience in handling complex federal cases in US and has done extensive appellate work and also represented clients in high-profile investigations by the DOJ, the Congress, and by independent counsels. Kevin Bell is known for cross-border and domestic patent litigation and has a strong portfolio of multi-national clients in both US and foreign jurisdictions.
Dr. Scott Chambers served as an associate solicitor for the USPTO and defended the USPTO’s patentability determinations and statutory interpretations before upper courts. He is highly recognized for his work in intellectual property law and was instrumental in drafting the Examination Guidelines for the Examining Corps of the USPTO and congressional testimony for the agency regarding biotechnology and patents. Dr. Chambers is an adjunct faculty member at Georgetown University Law School, Catholic University Law School and George Washington Law School, where he teaches classes on international intellectual property law and advanced courses in patent law.
Porzio confirmed in their news release that at least 12 lawyers and professionals are shifting base led by Bell, Chambers and Oparil. Until now, Porzio had existing offices in New Jersey, New York and Massachusetts. Besides Bell, Chambers and Oparil, who are joining Porzio as principals, Timothy Ayers from Porzio will also lead the new office.
