Leading UK Private Equity Lawyer Leaving Travers Smith to Join Ropes & Gray

Ropes & Gray LLP announced last week that Phil Sanderson, the former head of Travers Smith’s London private equity team, is joining the firm as a partner in its London office.

In joining Ropes & Gray’s London, United Kingdom private equity team, he will play a key role in further developing the firm’s European private equity offering, the law firm said in its news release. Sanderson’s arrival brings the number of the London private equity team of Ropes & Gray to 20 and enhances the law firm’s global private equity practice.

Sanderson has established himself as one of the top private equity lawyers in the UK market over his 20-year career, and he has consistently ranked in the top tiers of Chambers UK and The Legal 500. Known as a market leader in mid-market private equity transactions, Sanderson advises private companies, institutional investors and management teams in all areas of private equity, UK and international buy-outs, and strategic M&A transactions.
