DLA Piper is pleased to announce the arrival of Savaria Harris to the firm’s litigation practice. Ms. Harris will be based in the New York office, but will also practice in Washington, D.C.
Harris boasts an impressive resume. She has litigated complex commercial matters, including contract disputes, mass torts, and antitrust and patent litigation. Her experience also includes federal investigations and enforcement actions. She has focused on anti-fraud litigation, as well as compliance counseling, under the U.S. False Claims Act.
Heidi Levine, co-managing partner of DLA Piper’s New York office, stated, “Savaria is a talented and highly respected litigator. She will be a welcome addition to our litigation and white collar teams, and an asset to our clients in New York, D.C. and nationwide.” Richard Hans, co-managing partner of the New York office and chair of the litigation practice, added, “We are please to welcome Savaria to the firm. Harris is also a member of the Advisory Council for the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners, the largest anti-fraud organization in the world. The organization is also a premier provider of anti-fraud training education and certification. Harris also serves as a member of the New York University Program on Corporate Compliance and Enforcement, which is an invitation-only organization. Its focus is to encourage research on effectively enforcing legal rules. It also assists with methods and strategies to facilitate compliance with applicable standards. Harris is also an adjunct professor at Georgetown University, where she teaches workplace ethics.
Harris was awarded the Outstanding Achievement Award by the Washington Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights and Urban Affairs. Harris takes on many pro bono civil rights cases, and she was recognized for her representation of clients who filed claims alleging a major discount department store violated the Americans with Disabilities Act.
Harris, previously of Kirkland & Ellis’ Washington, D.C. office, earned her J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center. She received her B.A. from Yale University.
Harris follows the additions of corporate partner Mark Roppel and litigator Seth Friedman to the New York office. Other new partners in the national litigation practice include Jonathan Haray in Washington, D.C.; Jeff Torosian, Kevin Finger and Bevin Brennan in Chicago; and Karl Dial in Dallas.
