World Bar Leaders Coming to Philadelphia for World City Bar Leaders Conference

Summary: From September 10 through the 13, bar leaders from around the world will come to the city of Philadelphia for the World City Bar Leaders conference.

Bar leaders from Beijing, London, Frankfurt and other major cities from around the world will come to Philadelphia from September 10 through the 13, according to The Philadelphia Inquirer. They will be hosted by the Philadelphia Bar Association.

The main goal of the conference is to showcase the attributes of the city as a crossroads of cultural and economic activity.

William Fedullo, the association chancellor, said that the World City Bar Leaders Conference will focus on expanding legal representation for low-income people who are involved in civil litigation.

Kenneth Feinberg will make a presentation on responding to catastrophes. He is the administrator of victim funds that were established following the attacks of September 11, 2001, the BP gulf oil spill and accidents caused by the General Motors ignition switch malfunctions.

“We are the oldest bar association in the country, so I think this certainly enhances our status,” Fedullo said. “It certainly enhances the business opportunities and it is an opportunity to learn.”

Representatives from 16 cities in the United States and around the world will attend the conference. The meeting was held in Frankfurt, Germany in 2013.

“We are always ready to hear about their court systems; there is a give and take,” Fedullo said.

Pennsylvania Supreme Court Chief Justice Ronald D. Castille, former Governor Ed Rendell and other dignitaries will attend the opening reception on September 10.

Panels on ethical rules as they apply to lawyers and judges, sessions on managing the business side of a law firm and discussions on the legal battle over moving the Barnes Foundation to Philadelphia will all occur during the conference.

Representatives will also attend the conference from Chicago; Johannesburg, South Africa; New York City; Shanghai; and Barcelona, Spain.
