Man Comes Out to Parents, is Kicked Out of House, and Internet Responds Favorably

Summary: A 20-year-old man came out to his parents in 2013 and recorded the whole conversation. He was kicked out of his house and disowned.

A 20-year-old man, named Daniel Ashley Pierce, came out to his parents in October of 2013. He lived at home at the time in Georgia. When he told them he was gay, there was not much said.

His family, including his parents and grandparents, decided to stage an intervention some time after. Pierce knew that it was not going to end well, so he recorded the whole thing.

We have to warn you, this video shows some abuse and has hate speech in it. Watch it at your own discretion.

One of Pierce’s friends posted the video online, it went viral almost immediately, and an incredible thing happened. That same friend created a GoFundMe campaign to raise money for Pierce’s living expenses since he was thrown out of his parents’ home. It reached the $50,000 milestone within three days of being created.

Here is an excerpt from the video:

Mother: Now you can deny it all you want to, but I believe in the word of God and God creates nobody that way, it’s a path that you have chosen to choose.

Daniel: Uh uh.

Mother: All right, you believe it the way you want to believe it because I cannot change that.

Daniel: This is the way I’ll put that part. I have taken basic biology and psychology, and it’s determined within the first six weeks of birth what your personality is going to be and that’s part of your personality and you cannot change it, and it’s a scientific proof. My base off of that.

Mother: Well, you go by all the scientific stuff you want to, I’m going by the word of God.

Daniel: Well, scientific proof trumps the word of God.
