Dykema Grabs Product Liability Superstar

Summary: Dykema has added Nicholas J. Wittner, a Product Liability guru, to their Bloomfield Hills office.

Dykema has brought onboard a veteran lawyer bursting with every manner of experience in product liability law to their Bloomfield Hills office. With 30 years of experience in product liability litigation, carrying a hefty résumé of legal work since he graduated with his J.D. cum laude from Wayne State University School of Law, Nicholas J. Wittner is a heavy hitter when it comes to his specialization in Product Liability practice, the department he will be joining as Of Counsel, as the firm announced Aug. 26.

Not only has Wittner worked as Assistant General Counsel for Nissan North America, and Executive Attorney at General Motors, gaining the practical lived experience as a lawyer working with product liability law, he even teaches about product liability law and practice, and also international civil litigation, as a Professor of Law in Residence at Michigan State University College of Law. Incidentally, Michigan State University is also where he earned his BA.

“Nick’s background and significant experience precede him,” said Michael Cooney, Director of Dykema’s Litigation Department. “He’s a recognized leader in the field of product liability litigation and he certainly strengthens Dykama’s well-established credentials in its practice.”

How did he become a recognized leader? While a member of the American Law Institute, he worked intimately in the development of the Third Restatement of Product Liability. His platform includes working on the American Bar Association’s Section of Litigation, and Co-Chair of the ABA’s Product Liability Committee, Chair of the Product Liability Advisory Council, and Co-Chair for countless other programs.

Working as a leader with the ABA and other institutions, as well as working in the thick of the action at Nissan and General Motors, and teaching the law at Michigan State combine to make Wittner a powerhouse addition to the Dykema’s practice, as they clearly recognize.
