Team of 23 Lawyers in Middle East Leave Squire Patton Boggs

Summary: The law firm of Squire Patton Boggs has lost a team of 23 lawyers from the Middle East following its merger.

A team of 23 lawyers, which made up the legacy Squire Sanders practice in the Middle East, has left Squire Patton Boggs following the merger, according to Legal Business. The only team left is the Patton Boggs legacy, The Khalid Al-Thebity Law Firm.

A demerger will take place for the legacy of Squire Sanders in the Middle East, which has offices in Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and Lebanon. This will occur two years after El-Khoury & Partners joined the law firm following an affiliation that started back in 2006.

Patton Boggs and Squire Sanders entered into the merger with an affiliation in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Problems began to spark when the law firm tried to merge operations and appoint Khalid Al-Thebity as managing partner.

Peter Crossley, the European and Middle East managing partner for Squire Patton Boggs, said the following in the release: “Khalid and his team are highly regarded, with a depth of experience and capability within sectors of strategic importance for our global firm. With a well-established Riyadh office we will be able to unlock opportunities in Saudi Arabia and throughout the region.”

Al-Thebity added: “We are very pleased to be affiliated with Squire Patton Boggs. The firm’s global network and its strength in key hubs across the Gulf means that we are very well-positioned to provide services to clients doing business or investing in the Middle East.”
