Chicago-based international law firm DLA Piper announced this week that the firm has named Rich Greenstein as the Chair of the firm’s US Franchise and Distribution Practice.
Greenstein is a founding member of the Atlanta office of the firm and has led the firm’s Franchise and Distribution practice in the Southeast since 2006. He is also on the Policy Committee of the firm and a member of the Corporate and Private Equity practices.
Greenstein succeeds Dennis Wieczorek who passed away on July 13. Philip Zeidman, Senior Partner of the firm and a member of the Franchise and Distribution practice, said, “We’ve been overwhelmed by the outpouring of affection and sadness at Dennis’s death. At the same time, we’ve been gratified by the messages of support from clients with long histories of association with our firm’s franchising practice, including the International Franchise Association, which we’ve served as General Counsel for 54 years. Now with Rich at the helm, we will, of course, continue to provide the same level of service to our franchising clients that Dennis exemplified for so many years.”
Greenstein is a transactional lawyer with more than 30 years of experience representing clients across multiple industries involving franchise and distribution law, intellectual property, licensing and M&A. Over the past 10 years, he has served as lead franchise and intellectual property counsel in the acquisition and disposition of franchisors in multiple industries, including hospitality and food sectors, and education.
Earlier this year, he was recognized among Franchise Times’ 2014 “Dealmakers of the Year.” In combining his franchise experience with mergers and acquisitions, Greenstein has created a niche practice advising clients, particularly private equity firms, in the acquisition and sale of franchise systems.
In 2013, DLA Piper was also recognized by US News & World Report as “Law Firm of the Year” in the Franchise Law category, as well as “International Franchise Law Firm of the Year” by Who’s Who Legal for the tenth consecutive year.
