Israeli Law Firms Merge Despite Unrest

One of the largest law firms in Israel acquired a seven-lawyer technology firm in Tel Aviv, according to The Am Law Daily. Shibolet & Co. has acquired Israeli, Ben-Zvi, Attorneys at Law. Two partners and five associates will be brought into the firm from the boutique.

The boutique was founded by Omer Ben-Zvi, who has specialization in venture capital financing, IP issues and joint ventures. He will join the Tel Aviv office of Shibolet beginning in August.

“On a day-to-day basis things are fine, although you might have to duck into a shelter for a few minutes here and there,” Aviram said in a phone interview with The Am Law Daily. “Of course, while most of us are trying to work as usual, certainly our hearts and minds are elsewhere.”

“The world is growing and companies want that one-stop shop for legal services,” Aviram said. “And Israel is no exception.”

Shibolet has relationships with multiple large United States law firms. Aviram said that he is not worried about lawyers in the United States moving in on his territory. He said that law firms have offices in Tel Aviv mostly for client relations instead of competing for business from local firms.

“Technology is the engine of Israel’s economy, so we have to try and maintain normal service to clients, even if that’s not always possible,” Aviram said. “If we miss something on an IPO, that will hurt us more than any rocket.”
