Law school graduates are finding it easier to obtain a job at a large law firm compared to the past couple of years, according to The Wall Street Journal. From the class of 2013, law grads who are working in private practice nine months following graduation found a job at a firm that has more than 500 lawyers at a rate of 20.6 percent. This is according to data from the National Association for Law Placement. The same positions came in at a rate of 16.2 percent for grads in 2011.
Despite this, the number of jobs taken by 2013 grads is much lower than those taken by the class of 2009. 2013 grads took 3,980 jobs while grads in 2009 took 5,156 jobs.
“The overall demand for legal services has certainly dropped at all levels, and incoming lawyers have not been excluded from that,” said Joseph Torres. Torres is the chair of the hiring committee for Winston & Strawn LLP.
