Lorin Reisner Joins Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison

The law firm of Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison is adding a top official from the United States Attorney’s Office in Manhattan, according to the firm and a report from Reuters.

The chief of the criminal division in the U.S. Attorney’s Office in the Southern District of New York, Lorin Reisner, will join the firm in New York. Reisner oversaw prosecutions of Rajat Gupta, the former director of Goldman Sachs, and Matthew Martoma and Michael Steinberg, the former SAC Capital Advisors portfolio managers.

In the release from the firm, chair Brad S. Karp said, “We are delighted to welcome a lawyer of Lorin’s stature, talent and expertise to our firm. Lorin has enjoyed a remarkable career in both the public and private sectors, and his intellect and unique experiences will enhance our ability to provide our clients with wise advice and counsel. He will be a significant addition to the Paul, Weiss family.”

Reisner will begin working at the firm next month in the white-collar crime practice, the regulatory defense practice and the government investigations practice. He will also work in the high stakes litigation practice.

Reisner issued the following statement via the press release: “I am thrilled to be joining Paul, Weiss and the firm’s premier litigation department. I look forward to working with this outstanding team of attorneys and using my experience to help the firm’s clients navigate the complex legal and regulatory challenges they face.”

Reisner began his term with the office in January of 2012 after he worked as deputy director of the enforcement division at the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. He started that position in 2009. Prior to that job he worked at Debevoise & Plimpton.

Jay Cohen, the co-chair of the Litigation Department, said the following in the release: “The addition of Lorin to our firm strengthens our already preeminent litigation department, which advises on some of the most high-profile and sophisticated cases globally. I am proud to welcome him to Paul, Weiss.”

Reisner is going to be replaced at the Attorney’s Office by Joon Kim, the current chief counsel. Kim will be replaced by Daniel Stein, a partner from Richards, Kibbe & Orbe.
