Legal Services Sector Sees Drop in Jobs for Month of May

In the month of May, the legal services sector lost 700 jobs, which comes after a drop of more than 2,000 jobs in April. This data comes from preliminary data released by the Labor Department, according to The Wall Street Journal.

The seasonally adjusted number of legal jobs for the month of May came in at 1.14 million. This is 1,200 more jobs than in May of 2013, but 40,000 jobs shy of the industry’s 10-year high in 2007.

Employers hired at a steady pace in the month of May across the country. The month was one of the best four-month stretches for job creation since the late 1990s. Despite all of this, the jobless rate stayed the same at 6.3 percent for May.

For those searching for a job in the legal field, you should know that law firms do not always advertise their open positions as soon as they become available, so the current BLS statistics do not show every potential opportunity. In fact, many firms will wait until they go through in-house candidates before making the positions available to the public.

To get ahead of the game, you can use Legal Authority to conduct a targeted mailing that goes directly to law firms. This can help an attorney of any experience level gain the advantage in a job hunt over others in their field.
