George Washington University Law School Names Blake D. Morant New Dean

School officials from the George Washington University Law School have announced the newest dean and he comes from Wake Forest University’s law school, according to The GW Hatchet. Blake D. Morant will take the reigns at the law school on September 1 after spending seven years in the same position at Wake Forest. Forant is an expert in media and administrative law. The dean’s position at GW has been void of a permanent head for 18 months.

Morant is the second African-American dean in the history at GW. He is a double alumnus from the University of Virginia. He is the president-elect of the Association of American Law Schools and will be president in 2015. Morant has also spent time as the vice chair of the American Bar Association’s diversity council.

Morant was a professor at multiple schools prior to taking over as dean at Wake Forest. His stops included Washington and Lee and American universities. Morant also worked two summers at the office of the general counsel at NASA.

Former dean Paul Schiff Berman was moved to the provost’s office in the fall of 2012 after some professors attempted a school-wide vote that would have removed him from his post.

By choosing Morant, the second term as interim dean for Gregory Maggs will come to an end at the end of August.
