Jay Coogan Leaves Duane Morris to Join DLA Piper’s Corporate and Finance practice

DLA Piper announced today that John “Jay” Coogan, Jr. has joined the firm’s Corporate and Finance practice as a partner in the Philadelphia office. Coogan joins DLA Piper from Duane Morris LLP . He serves on boards of various business and charitable organizations in the greater Philadelphia region. Earlier in his career, Coogan served as a law clerk to Judge Andrew G.T. Moore II of the Supreme Court of the State of Delaware.

Upon Coogan joining the firm, Jay Smith, chair of DLA Piper’s US Corporate and Finance practice, said “Jay’s diverse industry and practice experience immediately enhances our platform providing complex transactional counsel in private equity and the capital markets.”

Jay Coogan represents public and private companies and private equity and investment firms in mergers and acquisitions and debt and equity securities offerings. His clients invest and operate in a variety of industries, including health care, technology, energy, business services, and consumer products. He also advises non-profit and for-profit health care enterprises in business and regulatory matters.

“Jay’s talents are widely known, extremely well regarded, and will complement our regional transactional capabilities,” added James Brogan, managing partner of DLA Piper’s Philadelphia office. “He brings strong relationships in the venture capital, private equity and investment banking communities, and we are delighted he joined our team.”

Coogan earned a J.D. from Tulane University School of Law and a B.A. from Vanderbilt University.
