Legal Recruiter Profile: Suzanne Dupree Howe

Suzanne Dupree Howe is a legal recruiter for BCG Attorney Search in Houston, Texas. She works as the Managing Director for Texas and the Southeast. She previously worked in private practice at a large firm in Austin for five years before becoming a recruiter.

Suzanne graduated from The University of Texas at Austin with a bachelor’s degree in sociology and earned her J.D. from the University of Texas School of Law.

She is responsible for 11 states in the Southern region of the country, including Texas, where she was mostly raised.

Suzanne began her recruiting career for a firm in Denver after deciding to make a career change from private practice. She explained her decision to make a career change:

“I was always interested in people. I knew everything about my law school classmates; their names and something about them. It was a way to transfer my social skills and my background in law into a platform that was the right fit for me. It was also a way for me to work one-on-one with attorneys and still use my J.D.”

Suzanne was drawn to BCG because of the firm’s candidate-focused model.

“BCG is committed to serving the best interest of our candidates in any way that we can. They are not just a number to us. We work with them extensively. We get to know them. We learn about their backgrounds, what they are looking for and where their career is headed,” Suzanne explained.

With her success in the industry, Suzanne explained what it takes to become a successful recruiter in the legal industry.

“You need market knowledge and the ability to understand the candidates. You need to know where they will fit in within a law firm context.”

When pressed about her daily motivation, Suzanne noted that she loves connecting with her candidates on a personal level.

“I want to do a good job for them (candidates) and get the job they want. Candidates who are invested in their career and want to move forward motivates me. I like being a part of that. I like facilitating that. I feel that it’s on me to get them where they want to be if they sought me out.”

To go along with her motivation, Suzanne said that the rewarding part of her career is when former candidates contact her to thank her for a job well done.

“If I am able to move candidates to a firm that’s helped them advance their career significantly, then I am very happy as a recruiter. This is my ultimate goal.”
