TV Judge Joe Brown Arrested

“Judge Joe Brown,” the 66-year-old star of the television show, according to court officials in Memphis, was arrested and charged with five counts of contempt of court in Tennessee. Judge Joe Brown’s nationally syndicated TV show was cancelled last year.

TMZ has confirmed that Judge Joe Brown was arrested after allegedly losing it, becoming verbally abusive and was also warned several times to quiet down. The former TV judge was representing a woman who had been brought in on a warrant in a child support case, and was reportedly turned away by the court staff.

CBS News has reported that, Chief Magistrate Judge Dan Michael, a spokesman for the Shelby County Juvenile Court, said Brown appeared to have been representing a client who was accused of not paying child support.

According to TMZ Judge Joe Brown was cited for contempt of court 5 times and was ultimately ordered to spend 5 days in jail for causing the outburst during the courtroom hearing. Fox News has reported that neither jail officials nor juvenile court officials knew whether Judge Brown had retained a lawyer. It was unclear if and when he would serve the five-day sentence. According to CNN News a representative for Judge Brown could not be reached for comment on the case.

CNN has reported that Judge Joe Brown was released on his own recognizance. Judge Joe Brown was thrust into the national spotlight while presiding over James Earl Ray’s last appeal of Ray’s conviction for the assassination of Martin Luther King, Jr. Brown was removed from the reopened investigation of King’s murder due to alleged bias — former Congresswoman Cynthia McKinney of Georgia wrote that Brown told her and the Congressional Black Caucus, unequivocally, that the so-called murder rifle was not the weapon that killed Martin Luther King, Jr. It was during this time that Judge Brown caught the attention of the producers of Judge Judy.
