Lawsuit Filed Against Uber and One of its Drivers

A lawsuit was filed against Uber Technologies Inc. and one of the company’s drivers by a woman from Cook County on Wednesday, according to the Chicago Tribune. The woman claims that earlier in March, the driver made unwanted advances to the woman and even fondled her.

The lawsuit was filed in Cook County Circuit Court and details the alleged incident, which took place on March 8. A driver from Uber picked the woman up and started driving in the wrong direction. The plaintiff moved to the front seat of the vehicle to help navigate. This is when the driver commented on the woman’s appearance and asked her for a date.

Then, according to the complaint, the driver “repeatedly fondled (plaintiff’s) legs, groin area and breasts.”

When the driver entered Lake Shore Drive, the woman threatened to call police, which led the driver to try to get the woman out of the vehicle. At Diversey Avenue and Clark Street, the driver pulled over and begged the woman not to tell anyone about what happened. A spokesperson from Uber said that the account of the driver was deactivated when the plaintiff called the company.

The lawsuit did not say if the driver worked for Uber or Uber X, which is a ride-share service. Both organizations have the same corporate owner.
