He calls himself Ambassador Dr. Francois De Cassagnol and he sued rapper and businessman, Jay Z for over half a billion dollars because he says he owns the rights to the Brooklyn Nets’ name. Dr. Francois de Cassagnol who sued the NBA and others over the “Brooklyn Nets” trademark last year has now filed new court documents, according to Radar Online, accusing Jay Z of being in default, and accusing his co-defendants of legal “mischief!”
According to official court documents, De Cassagnol believes the NBA, Jay Z, and real-estate developer Bruce Ratner, “fraudulently conspired” to deceive the U.S. Patent Office.
The plaintiff, Francois De Cassagnol, 66, alleges that he received “no response” following his January 23 service of his complaint to Jay Z’s 40/40 Club in Manhattan, according to court documents that were obtained by Radar, de Cassagnol says, “and I’ve requested for this court to act accordingly” and “Thereby Mr. Carter was in full default.”
The Brooklyn Game has reported, that documents submitted as evidence show that De Cassagnol filed applications back in 2012 for “The Brooklyn Nets Entertainment Logo,” which was first used in the State of Louisiana back in 2003. Francois De Cassagnol alleges that the NBA’s lawyers want an extension before the case will go to court, but he also says they do “NOT deserve any extension of time on the basis of their usage of that kind of vicious tactics to evade services.”
Entrepreneur Shawn Carter, a.k.a. Jay-Z, sold his stake in the Nets team earlier this season to now head coach Jason Kidd. It has been reported he wants to pursue a career as a sports agent.
Dr. Francois De Cassagnol says that “For the last ten years I’ve continuously reached out to these folks and in return all I got is insult after insult,” and also comments that “Now it’s time to go on trial to finally resolve these issues.”
