Aaron Paul: The “Need for Speed”

Aaron Paul received the script for “Need for Speed,” and according to the Huffington Post, the Breaking Bad star had very little interest in even reading the story, let alone taking a starring a role in the movie. “Need for Speed” is based on a hit video game franchise Written by George Gatins and John Gatins, and directed by Scott Waugh, it is an action film where Aaron Paul plays Tobey Marshall, a guy with a lot to gain but also a lot to lose, in a dynamic stunt driving movie set in upstate New York.

The movie is reported to include many chases and stunts with real cars and old-school techniques. Aaron Paul who has agreed to play the lead in the film, which is based on the popular EA videogame franchise, according to USA Today, was on the series Breaking Bad, which ran from 2008 to 2013. Paul says the film, which is based on a 20-year-old video game that is the industry’s most popular racing series in history with 140 million units sold, was a natural jump from Breaking Bad.

“Breaking Bad opened so many doors I never imagined when I first got here,” Aaron Paul says. “Now that they’re open, I don’t want to stop busting through them.”

Paul did a lot of the stunt driving for the movie himself and much like the video game “Need for Speed” stars everywhere from muscle cars to the world’s rarest and most expensive vehicles, including a Lamborghini Sesto Elemento and a Bugatti Veyron. The Huffington Post reported that he trained at Willow Springs International Raceway in Los Angeles. It has been reported that Aaron Paul was only in scenes where the driving did not exceed 130 mph.

The Dreamworks film is homage to movies like Bullitt and to actors like Steve McQueen. Director Scott Waugh also made the acclaimed military movie, Act of Valor in 2012.
