Criminal Investigation of Gov. Chris Christie’s Ex-Chief of Staff

Federal agents are conducting a criminal investigation into fired deputy chief of staff to New Jersey Governor Chris Christie, Bridget Anne Kelly, over her role in deliberate traffic jams at the George Washington Bridge, her attorney said. Bridget Anne Kelly is the Chris Christie aide who wrote the now infamous message — “Time for some traffic problems in Fort Lee.” According to NorthJersey.com, Christie’s now-fired deputy chief of staff Bridget Anne Kelly has invoked her Fifth Amendment right against self-incrimination.

According to Bloomberg News, Michael Critchley is the attorney representing Bridget Anne Kelly. Lawmakers have issued 38 subpoenas. According to the court papers, “It is clear that the U.S. Attorney’s Office investigation is active and that, by virtue of the e-mail attributed to Ms. Kelly and the U.S. Attorney’s Office attempt” to speak to her, she is “at the very least, a subject of the investigation.”

An attorney for Bill Stepien, Christie’s former campaign manager, said earlier this week that the FBI had visited his home and questioned people who know him around the same time, according to a separate court filing. Michael Critchley also led the defense team that won the acquittal of the Lucchese crime family after a 21-month-long trial.
