Stephen Obie Joins Jones Day Leaving U.S. Futures Trading Commission

Stephen Obie, the Regional Administrator/Regional Counsel of the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission’s New York office has joined Jones Day as a partner in its Financial Institutions Litigation & Regulation Practice. Obie was also the Acting Director of the Enforcement Division of the USFTC from 2008 to 2010, and then worked as the agency’s Chief Trial Attorney.

In his work at the USFTC, Obie advised senior management and Presidential appointees on enforcement and policy matters. He planned and supervised enforcement attorneys in prosecuting violations of the U.S. Commodity Exchange Act. During his tenure, Obie was instrumental in establishing the forensic economist unit within the USFTC’s Enforcement Division. Also, from 2009 to 2010, Obie was a co-chair of the Securities and Commodities Subcommittee of the President’s Financial Fraud Enforcement Task Force.

Stephen Obie received his J.D. from the State University of New York at Buffalo, and his B.A. in Political Science from Drew University. He is licensed to practice in the District of Columbia and the State of New York.
