You might remember Charlie Korsmo from the 1991 Robin Williams, Steven Spielberg Hollywood movie, “Hook.” The film acts as a sequel to J. M. Barrie’s 1911 novel Peter and Wendy, focusing on a grown-up Peter Pan who has forgotten his childhood. Now known as Peter Banning, he is a successful corporate lawyer with a wife and two children. Hook, played by Dustin Hoffman, kidnaps his children, and Peter must return to Never land and reclaim his youthful spirit in order to challenge his old enemy.
Some of Charlie Korsmo’s other Hollywood on screen credits include the films Dick Tracy with Warren Beatty, The young son of Dr. Leo Marvin (Richard Dreyfuss) in What About Bob? And the 1998 high-school party flick Can’t Hardly Wait.
After a fluctuating child acting career, according to Scene and Heard, he decided to go to school in 2000. Charlie Korsmo, who received his Juris Doctor degree from Yale Law School in 2006, has also earned a degree in physics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. In May 2011 Charlie Korsmo was nominated by President Obama for member of the Board of Trustees of the Barry Goldwater Scholarship and Excellence in Education Foundation. Charlie Korsmo is now a professor at Cleveland’s Case Western Reserve University School of Law.
Case’s law newspaper The Docket, did an interview with Charlie Korsmo on how acting has influenced his legal career. Korsmo told the newspaper, “It is really helpful to have a bit of a performance background as a lawyer, at least in theory. It helps because you don’t get stage fright, and it’s much easier to be persuasive in a real manner. And, as a professor, it’s kind of like giving a live theatrical performance four times a week. I get to write my own script, but you never know what people are going to ask. So really, it’s more like improv theatre.”
