Police Respond to Scream from Home Find an Extremely Happy Pig

In the town of China, Maine, police were called to a neighborhood where a woman heard screaming and what she thought was a domestic assault at a neighbors home.

According to the state police, a woman in the area called the department and said, she heard what she thought was a fight, and heard screaming coming from one of the homes in her neighborhood.

Expecting god knows what, authorities went on to investigate. After arriving at the home of the disturbance, four state troopers carefully went on to see if anyone was inside. Flashlights flashing, they began their questioning by talking to the person at the home. The woman in the home stated that she raises pigs. The screaming was one of the pigs that is male, voicing his excitement over being put into a pen where there were five female pigs, or sows, in heat.

According to the police on the scene, there was no assault and no disturbance, they did not find anyone in danger or harmed “other than the screaming male pig, that they found to be very happy.” Pigs can breed often, have a short gestation period and produce large litters. These factors make breeding pigs lucrative. A single boar (male) can breed with 50 females housed in stalls, or 40 located in a pasture.
