Architecture and Planning

On the popular blog site Cheezburger.com there is a posting of a photo showing the front of a building with its sign reading, “Ollege Of Architecture and Planning.” This post’s picture could definitely become a meme, with the caption reading oh-so-ironically, “Planning.”

Built in 1972, the picture is of the CAP building at Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana. Nationally recognized, CAP is Indiana’s first and only state-supported architectural school. The sign was an intentional joke when the building was made.

Ball State University is a public research university. The university has adopted environmental sustainability as a primary component to the university’s strategic plan and vision. Ball State is classified by the Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education as a high research activity university and a member of the American Association of State Colleges and Universities. The university is composed of seven academic colleges, including the College of Architecture and Planning, the College of Communication, Information, and Media, the Miller College of Business, and Teachers College. Other academic institutions include Burris Laboratory School and the Indiana Academy for Science, Mathematics, and Humanities. Architect magazine ranked the university’s Department of Architecture in the top three nationally for digital design and fabrication as well as one of six schools committed to social justice in the United States in 2010.
