Ropes & Gray Hires Richard Gallagher from Orrick

Ropes & Gray LLP has announced that renowned litigator Richard Gallagher has left Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe to join the firm’s San Francisco office as a partner in the litigation practice group. Gallagher is well known in the Bay Area for his successes in business and securities litigation, and his practice is focused on commercial and securities-related matters, including class actions, M&A litigation, derivative suits and corporate governance litigation.

Commenting on Gallagher’s arrival to the firm, Ryan Murr, the managing partner of Ropes & Gray’s San Francisco office said, “Richard Gallagher brings meaningful securities and M&A litigation experience to Ropes & Gray. His accomplishments bring greater depth to an already highly-respected group of business and securities litigators.”

Gallagher started his legal career working for Brobeck, Phleger & Harrison and was in the team of reputed litigator Tower Snow Jr. He later joined Clifford Chance in 2002 and moved to Orrick in 2009. After law school, Gallagher clerked for Hon. Irma E. Gonzalez in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of California. He holds a J.D. from University of California, Davis, and a B.A. from University of California, Santa Barbara.

On his part, Gallagher said, “I have worked closely with Ropes & Gray securities litigation attorneys on several cases over the years and have been uniformly impressed by their sophisticated approach to resolving complex business and securities litigation matters. It’s an honor and a great opportunity to join the award-winning group of attorneys at Ropes & Gray.”

Ropes & Gray maintains a high profile litigation practice group and the firm’s business & securities litigation practice group was named for the third-time in four years this January as the “practice group of the year” by Law 360.
