Latham & Watkins Hires Top Finance Partner in Hong Kong

Global law firm Latham & Watkins LLP announced bolstering of their China practice with the hiring of Howard Lam, a partner with a strong banking and restructuring experience. Lam joined the firm’s Hong Kong office as a partner in the Finance Department. His practice focuses on cross-border debt restructuring, insolvency, banking and complex financing transactions. He also handles private equity funds and corporate in both Hong Kong and Mainland China.

Lam is known to possess wide experience in various finance and insolvency matters to include China outbound cross-border financing, pre-IPO financings, bank/bondholders led debt restructurings, liquidations, and onshore/offshore syndicated loans and leveraged acquisition financings.

Lam will be leaving Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer in Hong Kong to join Latham & Watkins LLP. Lam obtained his Graduate Diploma in Law from Nottingham Trent University, and then did his PCLL and Master of Laws from the University of Hong Kong. He also has a Professional Certificate in Chinese Civil & Commercial Law from Tsinghua University in Beijing.

Speaking on Lam’s joining the firm, Michael Liu, Office Managing Partner of Latham & Watkins in Hong Kong said, “Howard has particular strength in understanding the markets and needs of clients in Asia and has the ability to apply international experience in a broad range of finance transactions. Many of us are old colleagues of Howard and we are really looking forward to having him on board.”
