OfficeMax Mailing List Mistake

Founded in Cleveland, Ohio in 1988 OfficeMax, Inc. is an American office supplies retailer headquartered in the Chicago suburb of Naperville, Illinois. The office supply company uses mailing lists to distribute information to its customers. A mailing list is a collection of names and addresses used by an individual or an organization to send material to multiple recipients. These lists can be rented through a third party provider which according to a statement made by OfficeMax, reported in the LA Times, that this is where the company had received its information about Mike Seay.

According to the LA Times, Mike Seay has received junk mail from the office supply company, OfficeMax, for years. This time though, the mailing that Mike received from the office retailer was quite different. Mike Seay, 46, appears to be the victim of a marketing mistake. The envelope he received was addressed to “Mike Seay, Daughter Killed in Car Crash.”

This alone seems horribly wrong. Until we find out that Mike Seay’s young daughter Ashley, who was only 17, was killed in a car crash with her boyfriend in February of last year.

Why would they have that type of information? OfficeMax has not released the name of the company whose mailing list it used to send the letter to Mike Seay. OfficeMax has not called to personally apologize to Mike Seay but has sent him another mailing, this time for a discount offering.
