Goals for the Phoenix Rock N Roll Half Marathon

Alrighty.

Apparently I’m running the Phoenix Rock N Roll Half marathon on Sunday!

So this is happening.

HA.

Here’s the thing about this half marathon – if it were in Chicago I probably would have pulled out ages ago, but since I’m going for the experience and to hang out with some of my awesome roomies from Healthy Living Summit, I’m going to give this a go!

The last time I ran a half marathon was a year and a half ago: The Chicago Rock N Roll Half Marathon the summer before running the Chicago Marathon.

However, a lot has changed since then, the biggest being my IT band injury. It is definitely still a big problem and I haven’t run for weeks because of it. Let’s check out my Daily Mile, shall we?

Quality training, yes? No. So… here are my goals!

1. Finish the race: Whether it’s running or walking (probably walking a lot) my dream goal is to finish the race and get my medal! I certainly paid for it…

2. Don’t make my injury considerably worse: I have a big relay race at the end of March and after this half I’m hoping to take another week or two off to completely focus on recovery and hopefully I’ll be able to get back into running and training for this relay.

3. Be okay with a DNF: I might have to pull out of the race (see #2) and I have to be okay with that. I tend to be pretty stubborn so it’s hard for me sometimes to quit halfway through, so one of my goals is to be okay with it if it happens!

4. HAVE FUN! Self explanatory. I’m going to Phoenix to visit friends, not run a race. The race was just an excuse to go down there! So my big goal for the weekend is to enjoy my time in Phoenix with my blogging buddies.

Ladies, HERE I COME!

p.s. Did I mention my flight leaves at 5am? That means I’ll be up at 2:45am… when most of the city is still out drinking. Yep…

What’s the earliest flight you’ve ever taken?

What would you recommend I do while in Phoenix? And yes, I’ve seen the Grand Canyon!
