Illinois Solicitor General Michael A. Scodro will be joining Jenner & Block LLP as a partner in its Appellate and Supreme Court practice from January 27 at the firm’s Chicago office.
Scodro has served as the Illinois Solicitor General for 6 ½ years, and during this time he oversaw the civil and criminal appeals divisions of the Attorney General’s Office. He has argued for Illinois before the U.S. Supreme Court, Illinois Supreme Court, and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit and Illinois Appellate Court. During his work as the Illinois Solicitor General, Scodro supervised more than 40 attorneys in state appeals.
Scodro joined the Illinois Attorney General’s office as a deputy solicitor general in 2006. He was later promoted to the post of Solicitor General. Before joining the government office he was an assistant professor of law at the Chicago-Kent College of Law and also clerked for the Supreme Court Justice, Sandra Day O’Connor and for Jose Cabranes of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit.
Currently, Scodro is a Lecturer of Law at the University of Chicago Law School,an elected member of the American Law Institute and also the secretary of the Appellate Lawyers Association. He has received the Supreme Court Best Brief Award four times from the National Association of Attorneys General and was honored in 2010 as one of the “40 Illinois Attorneys Under Forty to Watch” by the Law Bulletin Publishing Company.
