Lost Dog Rescued 2 Miles Off Shore Reported Missing for 2 Years

A fisherman out in Tampa Bay Thursday morning  never thought he’d be rescuing a small dog 2 miles out on the St. Petersburg shoreline. He couldn’t believe he spotted a small dog, just paddling along with just her nose rising above the water.

“We’re assuming she fell overboard at night and nobody even knew it,” Suzy Johnson, one of the dogs new caretakers told the Tampa Bay Times. We may never know how long the dog was in the water. That morning after the fisherman brought her back to shore, Johnson brought the dog back to Demens Landing, where she lives on a boat.

Tony Basile, a resident of the area helped get the dog out from under the crawlspace and on to Johnson’s boat. “She shook all night,” he said. They took the dog to a nearby hospital where they scanned the dogs’ microchip and found the dogs name is Baby, and that she has been reported missing years ago. The name and a phone number were listed, but the number didn’t work.

According to the Associated Press,  Basile wants to find her original owners even that the dog whines every time she loses sight of Basile. The dog really loves him. “She’s is just so well trained and obedient,” Johnson said. The Banfield Pet Hospital is still trying to contact the dogs owners with photos and with the word of the story getting out.
