Nixon Peabody and Blank Rome Rumored to be in Merger Talks

The law firm of Nixon Peabody, from Boston, is reportedly in discussions with Blank Rome, from Philadelphia, to merge, according to the New Hampshire Union Leader.

Unnamed sources claim that the firms have been discussing a merger for at least the last two months. When looking at financial numbers for 2012, if these two firms merge it would create the 33rd largest firm in the United States. Alan Hoffman, the managing partner at Blank Rome, did not confirm or deny any merger rumors. He did note that there is no merger planned for the near future.

“I talk to firms all the time,” Hoffman said. “I heard one rumor that we’re going to merge with Nixon Peabody in January, and that’s completely false. We are not on the verge of merging with anybody.” Andrew Glincher, the chief executive at Nixon Peabody, did not respond to requests made for comments by the Union Leader. When a spokeswoman was reached at the firm, she also did not comment on the rumors of a merger between the firms.

Nixon Peabody employs more than 600 lawyers in the United States, Europe, and Asia. The firm’s lawyers specialize in litigation, corporate transactions, and advising corporations and financial organizations on regulatory issues.

Both of the law firms have government affairs practices. The law firm of Blank Rome employs more than 500 lawyers in the United States and Shanghai. The firm specializes in labor and employment, real estate, corporate litigation, government relations and bankruptcy.
