828,773-Sale Weekend Shatters Records for Beyonce’s Album

Beyoncé made a bold statement last Friday by releasing an album without any promotion, leaks, or anything else. At midnight via iTunes Beyoncé released the self-titled album, Beyoncé, for the world. According to The Huffington Post, Beyoncé’s album sold 828,773 copies over the weekend alone. Not only did her album do chart breaking numbers, but Beyoncé went No. 1 in 104 countries. According to Mediabase weekly top 200 chart ending Saturday December 14th, Beyoncé’s single Drunk In Love hit as number 51.

Beyonce‘s brand new visual album has shattered records as the fastest album on iTunes ever and after three full days on the market, it has sold 828,773 copies worldwide, according to Apple. Billboard reported earlier that “Beyoncé” moved 80,000 copies in its first three hours on iTunes.

The sales week also makes it the highest for a female artist since Taylor Swift‘s album Red debuted back in November 2012 with 1.2 million copies sold. “The album features collaborations from Drake, Frank Ocean and Beyoncé’s husband and daughter Jay Z and Blue Ivy.”

I didn’t want to release my music the way I’ve done it. I am bored with that. I feel like I am able to speak directly to my fans,” Beyoncé said in the statement. The work was described as a “visual album’ because it included videos shot in an array of locations including Paris, Sydney, New York City, and Rio de Janeiro.
