In House Legal Work? Harder Than You Think

For the lawyers who think in house work is boring, here is someone with a second opinion. Hailing from Biglaw, Jason Beckerman holds down the legal fort at TMZ. Beckerman is the head of TMZ’s legal affairs, vetting script of the reality television show. He keeps the reality in check and makes sure TMZ entertainment is out of legal danger at all times.

According to the Wall Street Journal, just safeguarding the show business from legal trouble is in itself a full time job. Beckerman also has time on the air alongside TMZ’s founder, Harvey Levin. Beckerman is an “occasional commentator on the live show, where he discusses legal aspects of various stories.” Wearing different hats, but always legal and always on key, Beckerman may be discussing U.S. Foreign politics one moment or sociological politics and basketball the next.

Jason Beckerman graduated from the Loyola Law school in L.A, and worked at Kirkland & Ellis LLP as well as Sonnenschein Nath & Rosenthal LLP. His TMZ gig allows him to wear jeans and loafers; a comfy swap from his three piece suit and cuff links. While most of his day is spent making sure the day’s script doesn’t have any legal inaccuracies or areas that may lead to legal trouble, he notes that TMZ still gets sued about every eight months.
