Oren Bar-Gill, a renowned expert on contracts and law and economics of contracting will be joiningthe Harvard Law School from July 2014 as a Professor of Law. His fields of research include consumer contracts, economic analysis of law, contract law and behavioral law and economics.
Currently, Bar-Gill is the Evelyn and Harold Meltzer Professor of Law and Economics at the New York University School of Law. He joined NYU in 2005 as an assistant professor, and then became a professor of law in 2008 and in 2009. He was further appointed as Co-Director of NYU’s Center for Law, Economics and Organization.
Bar-Gill is a former student of Harvard Law and has received an S.J.D. in 2005 and an LL.M in 2001. He was an Olin Fellow from 2000 to 2004.
Speaking on Bar-Gill’s appointment, Dean Martha Minow said, “Oren is an exceptionally creative scholar whose work draws upon the disciplines of law, economics and psychology. A pioneer bringing psychological realism into the economic analysis of law, his work marvelously bridges theory and practice, with influence in public policy. We could not be more delighted that he will join the Harvard Law School faculty.”
He has written a multitude of peer acclaimed articles, and published significant research papers and books. He is the author of “Seduction by Contract: Law, Economics and Psychology in Consumer Markets.”
Bar-Gill’s work on consumer contracts was recognized by the American Law Institute in 2011 and he received the inaugural Young Scholar Medal of the institute. He is a co-reporter for the project on the Law of Consumer Contracts for the American Law Institute and a member of the Board of Directors of the American Law and Economics Association.
Bar-Gill served in the Israeli JAG from 1997 to 1999 and he also holds several degrees from Tel-Aviv University.
