Yale Investigates Report of Gunman on Campus as Students are Told to “Shelter In Place”

Officials at Yale University confirmed someone calling and reporting a gunman on campus ordered students to “shelter in place” as the possible suspect is searched for.

Posts on the universities web site read that “There are confirmed reports of a person with a gun on campus, on the Old Campus.” The university has been placed on lockdown, according to FoxNews.

Tweets from the universities student-run newspaper, The Yale Daily News, say there are Swat teams on site and there have been no shots fired and no one’s been hurt. Fox News reports Law Officials at the Justice Department said that this is not an “active shooter” situation.

An anonymous call just after 10 a.m. Monday came into the New Haven Police Department, made from a phone booth in the 300 block area of Columbus Avenue, reporting a sighting of a person walking on the Yale Campus with a gun.

Police scanners indicate police are looking for a “older white man, balding in a heavy overcoat, walking toward Linsley-Chittenden Hall. In the downtown area, there are several streets near the school that  have been blocked and there is a very heavy police presence in the area. Without doubt students have been panicking and parents and teachers are trying to weather the terror that they must be feeling. Authorities are continuing their investigations and attempts at ensuring safety across the Yale community.
