Hugh Jackman Reveals Skin Cancer Scare

The 45 year old actor Hugh Jackman, known for having played many roles recently, and is best know for his recurring role as ‘Wolverine” shared a tough truth with 231,000 of his followers on Instagram.  In an Instagram post Thursday, the actor who plays dynamic super hero Wolverine, Hugh Jackman revealed that he has skin cancer. The NY Daily News reports that, the X-Men star revealed to his 231,000 Instagram followers he has suffered a skin cancer scare on his face.
Though it rarely spreads, if left untreated, basal cell carcinoma, a common form of type of skin cancer, often manifested as a waxy bump or sore and attributed to long-term exposure to radiation from the sun, according to the Mayo Clinic, that the 45-year-old actor was diagnosed with can cause disfigurement.
The Australian star revealed it was his wife, Deborra-Lee Furness who encouraged him to get the small blemish on the bridge of his nose checked that was indeed skin cancer, basal cell carcinoma. He had the skin cancer spot removed, Jackman shared with his fans on Twitter.
According to the Skin Cancer Foundation, an estimated 2.8 million cases of basal cell carcinoma are diagnosed in the United States each year, and it is the most frequently occurring form of all cancers. Most basal cell carcinomas are thought to be caused by long-term exposure to ultraviolet (UV) radiation from sunlight. Avoiding the sun and using sunscreen may help protect against basal cell carcinoma.
In July, Jackman told the Daily News that he was taking the rest of the year off from show business to spend time with his family in New York City. “Please don’t be foolish like me. Get yourself checked. And USE sunscreen!!!”
Hugh Jackman fans can breath a collective sigh of relief and send a Thank you to their respective deities that he has more than a super hero on his side.  He has a loving and caring wife in his corner.
