Tom Cruise’s lawyer Bert Fields claims that the notion of people believing that Tom Cruise compares acting to being in Afghanistan is a total distortion of what was said during the deposition. Off camera, in a statement that was not released to the public, Tom was asked “Do you believe the situations [being in a movie and fighting a war in Afghanistan] are the same?” Tom replied “oh come on” which clearly meant “of course not”.
According to TMZ, the following is the dialogue between Tom Cruise and the opposing lawyer in the deposition.
Lawyer: “Now, your counsel has publicly equated your absence from Suri for these extended periods of time as being analogous to someone fighting in Afghanistan. Are you aware of that?”
Cruise: “I didn’t hear the Afghanistan, but that’s what it feels like, and certainly on this last movie, it was brutal.”
Legal documents obtained by TMZ state that Tom Cruise not only thinks he trains harder and longer than Olympic athletes, but he also believes that being a professional actor is as hard and grueling as fighting in the Afghanistan war. In terms of his physical training, Tom Cruise says that preparing for a role is difficult in terms of physical stamina and preparation. “Sometimes I’ve spent months, a year sometimes two years preparing for a single film”. He adds “A sprinter for the Olympics only has to run two races a day. When I’m shooting a film I could potentially have to run 30, 40 races a day, day after day’. Tom says some of the locations where he shoots his films are just like serving a tour in Afghanistan, that’s what it feels like. And certainly on this last movie, it was brutal.
As reported by TMZ Tom Cruise recently sat through a deposition in his $50 million libel suit against a magazine publisher that says Tom Cruise abandoned his daughter Suri. Tom says the skills he’s picked up along the way have helped in providing shortcuts in his relationship with daughter Suri. He says it’s not always necessary to be around Suri because he can always tell her vivid stories on the phone that can come to life. Tom stated “While I’m sure my daughter misses me when I am not with her(as I miss her), she is a very happy child, and we have a wonderful relationship and cheerful phone calls.” He continues to say, “I’ve gotten very good at talking on the phone, I’ve gotten very good at it. I tell wonderful stories and they like hearing it.”
