Chris Brown in Rehab

Chris Brown was arrested on Sunday after he and his bodyguard punched a fan. His assault charge will lead possibly him to jail; however following the footsteps of the infamous Lindsay Lohan, Brown will be in rehab just before his court date.

His representation issued the statement, “Chris Brown has elected to enter a rehab facility. His goal is to gain focus and insight into his past and recent behavior enabling him to continue the pursuit of his life and his career from a healthier vantage point.”

It is not clear that 24 year old Chris Brown has a substance abuse problem. Punching a fan rather randomly, and ruthlessly beating his ex-girlfriend -hit singer Rihanna is what got him into legal trouble. His bad temper and anger management problems are what has put him again and again in the hot seat.

Chris Brown almost caved Rihanna’s face in from beating her violently the night before the Grammy award gala in February of 2009; afterwards he was convicted of a domestic violence felony that had a long probationary period. This past August a judge found Chris in violation of his probation. Essentially he couldn’t prove that he had fulfilled his 1400 hours of community labor. The judge then added another 1000 hours onto his community service sentence.

The Los Angeles County district attorney will not be lenient to Brown especially now that the singer has again fallen back on his angry and violent behavior. According to CNN, “Prosecutors will ask for jail time for [Brown] because of the arrest early Sunday in the shadow of the White House.“ CNN goes on to say that the misdemeanor could possible “trigger a probation revocation.” If Brown is found in violation of his probation, it is possible that he would be ordered to be in prison for as many as four years by the Los Angeles judge who has oversight onto his felony probation.

On November 20 Chris Brown has to be in court in Los Angeles for his probation status hearing and at this time it is unclear whether prosecutors will try and seek jail time. Brown and his bodyguard assaulted a 20 year old fan and broke the man’s nose. Chris then spent 36 hours in jail in Washington D.C. and showed up in court the next day in shackles. He then reported to his probation officer- the same person who will report on whether or not Brown is found to be in violation. If found, jail time almost definitely will ensue. Right now by being in rehab, Brown’s rep commented, “[This will allow Brown to] gain focus and insight”- while CNN notes that the rehab stint “could allow Brown’s lawyer Mark Geragos to argue that the entertainer is getting proper help for his core problem.”
