Leave it to the Brits to devise fart-filtering underwear and leave it to us Americans to actually buy it. According to The Huffington Post and Shreddies spokeswoman, Ianthe Betts-Clarke, the majority of sales are credited to consumers in The United States. Since receiving recognition of their seemingly silly product on the internet, there has been a four hundred percent increase in orders for the miracle underwear.
Now for the scientific part: “Shreddies” is made of a carbon cloth called Zorflex which is sewn into the rear panel of the undergarment. It can oppress the smell of “two hundred times the average flatulence emission.” It all started in 2008 when the company catered to customers with digestive tract issues, but eventually and successfully branched out. Betts-Clarke explained it simply, “It’s a product for everybody because everyone farts.” Boxer briefs for men are priced between thirty nine dollars and forty five dollars, while panties for women sell for thirty-one dollars to thirty-four dollars. The Flat-D Flatulence Deodorizer is also on the market and is a charcoal cloth pad taped to the inside of briefs to mask any unsettling stink.
This could very well be the end of fart jokes in Hollywood movies – oh no! Then again, where would American cinema be without them?
