Inez Tenenbaum has been President Barack Obama’s choice for leader of The United States Consumer Product Safety Commission since 2009. Tenenbaum has decided to join the law firm of Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough effective December 1st. She will work in the law firm’s Product Safety and Risk Prevention & Regulatory Practice Group. Within those areas she will be responsible for advising clients on risk assessment and management, regulatory oversight, product reporting, recalls and other litigation matters. Her expertise with the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act will focus on certification requirements and product testing.

The CPSC had been without a chair for three years and once she was sworn in she took immediate leadership. She enforced safety laws and made sure consumers did not buy unsafe products. She has expanded the CPSC to include small businesses and foreign governments. She has also strengthened the important relationship between United States Customs and Border Protection, personally making certain that bad products don’t get even close to unsuspecting consumers.

Nelson Mullins provides legal assistance to a variety of Fortune 500 companies and Tenebaum’s rich experience will only add to their high caliber firm. The law firm has experience with children’s products, which is perfect for Tenenbaum since she used to work as Superintendent of Education in South Carolina. According to a press release from Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough, secretary Riley has nothing but high praise for Tenenbaum, stating that, “She is a talented lawyer who has a special concern for children – their education, their health, and their safety. I look forward to working with her on education initiatives and on behalf of our education institutions and our students.” During her years as superintendent, former ambassador to Canada, David Wilkens, served as Speaker of the House of Representatives in South Carolina and is now an important presence at Nelson Mullins; he only added to the high praise with, “Inez and I have had a wonderful working relationship in the past. She is a well-known and respected attorney and thoughtful leader both at home and in Washington, and I welcome her to the Firm and back home to South Carolina.”

Since 1897, Nelson Mullins has accomplished significant relationships with their clients and employees. They possess expertise in more than forty different practice areas and provide creative solutions to legal and business problems. They have more than five hundred attorneys working for them in offices located in Florida, the District of Columbia, Georgia, Massachusetts, North Carolina, Tennessee, West Virginia, and of course, South Carolina. Inez Tenenbaum will only add extra prestige to their always growing law firm.
